We have just finished a fun and successful textiles up-cycling project in seven boroughs of London.
Resource London commissioned us to partner with them to design and deliver a series of workshops to encourage the reuse and recycling of clothing.
We hosted Christmas and seasonal themed workshops in Sutton, Merton, Harrow, Wandsworth, Hounslow, Brent and Hillingdon.
Local people came along with an existing piece of clothing from their wardrobes. We came with piles of exciting resources and examples of different techniques. We have a rail of examples of tops and jumpers to inspire our students. Applique is a good technique as it’s easy to grasp and can be used to create motifs and simple images. Great for covering up a hole or small stain with a Christmas reindeer.
We’ve found an amazing sequinned fabric that is easily cut and sewn that works so well for projects like this.
December 15th 2017 is Save The Children ‘s Christmas Jumper day.
Would you like us to run a similar workshop for you? Get in touch, we’d love to hear from you.
An important and heartfelt part of Sew Fabulous is our environmental work. 250,000 tons of textiles end up in landfills every year. We have a commitment to reduce textiles waste through fun and engaging projects. We’re constantly creating an increasing resource of films and downloadable tutorials that you can access here.
