Sashiko style hand-sewing workshop
Join us in for an introduction into this beautiful form of Japanese stitching.
Sashiko uses small running stitches to create geometric designs and patterns. Traditionally this has been used to strengthen, increase warmth, repair and decorate clothing and textiles.
During this three hour workshop you will explore how to create a variety of Sashiko styles, using simple patterns and learn to how to build them into detailed designs.
Working on cotton swatches, you will learn how transfer designs to fabric without the need of templates. One of these will explore the traditional quilted method of layering fabrics as a way of reusing older textiles.
Throughout the workshop we will also be looking at the heritage of this Japanese sewing tradition and the part it has played in their culture.
This beginner-friendly introduction to Sashiko includes all necessary equipment and materials.
